Anthony Zellerbach correspondence : ALS, 1863-1867.

Consists mainly of letters to Anthony Zellerbach from his brother, Marks Zellerbach, concerning their businesses in Moore's Flat, Nevada County, Calif. Letters discuss daily financial and stock transactions conducted, Marks' efforts to secure loans for their enterprises, business affairs in Moore's Flat, banking and economic conditions in San Francisco, and Nevada County water companies. Persons mentioned include Milton S. Latham, John Parrott, Christian Reis, Lloyd Tevis, and other prominent financiers and bankers. Other correspondents include Sam T. Henry, Joseph C. Levi, and George C. Powers. Some letters are to Marks Zellerbach. Includes typed transcriptions of some letters, and a few incomplete letters. Also includes a deed, dated Oct. 2, 1865, from Henry Hayes and Anthony Zellerbach to Wm. I. Tisdale.

Zellerbach was German-born businessman who immigrated to Philadelphia, and then to Calif. with his brother, Marks Zellerbach, settling in 1856 in Moore's Flat, Nevada County. Here they engaged in several business enterprises together, including a banking house called Marks & Company, and a water ditch company.
